Tell us about your cosplay. What was your inspiration?/why did you choose this character?
I fell in love with this dress the moment I saw it on screen back in 2002. I like the prequels, especially for the costumes and this dress is just so romantic, I couldn’t help but falling in love with it. I started sewing in 2004. When I got better at it, I started gathering supplies for it, but got distracted by other things and never started. I hadn’t made a costume for quite a while (but never stopped sewing), when I decided to get back to it in the beginning of 2016. At first I planned to make it quick and cheap, but I just couldn’t do it this way, so in the end it took me much longer and costs me a lot more than I expected. Looking back, I am happy that I didn’t make it in 2004, because it wouldn’t turn out the way it did now.
How long did it take to make your Cosplay?
I started in January 2017 and finished in August.
What was your biggest challenge?
The colors and all the embroidery. I dyed everything myself and spend many evenings embroidering only the skirt and blouse…not to start with the corset.
What was your budget? Approximately how much did you spend?
As I mentioned before, I had planned to make it cheap. I didn’t had an actual budget, I just bought things when I got the money, stretched over a few months. I would say around 300 Eur, maybe 400.
What special techniques did you use?
I did a lot of dying. I dyed the fabric step by step, the main fabric about five times. I also did a lot of embroidery. I used a chain stitch on the main fabric and several different stitches on the corset front.
What was the most satisfying about making this Cosplay/What made you proud?
The moment when I put everything together, to see that I had made it through and that I achieved a really good reproduction. I also got approved by Rebel Legion, an official Star Wars Costume Fan club. That made me really proud.
If you had to remake this Cosplay, what would you do differently?
I would like to have even more embroidery on the skirt, but I also want to make more costumes in this life, so I compromised on this 😉
How often do you Cosplay?
I rediscovered the hobby for me last year and I wore my costumes two times since than. For this year I have many more dates planned.
How many cosplay do you do?
Right now I have four planned for this year.
What do you want to make next?
I am currently working on another Star Wars costume and started the Wonder Woman Armour a few months ago.
Favorite cosplay moment?
Seeing the happy faces of a few children at our Local Comic con last year when I wore Padme for the first time in public.
Favorite fandoms to follow?
Star Wars, Lord of the rings, Marvel
What sewing machine do you sew on?
I’m a Bernina Girl. Most of the time I sew on a Bernina 350.
What materials do you like using?
I love fabrics with great textures, they can really bring a cosplay to live. Also silk, but sometimes I forgot about how much I love it, when I have to sew it 😉
What materials do you want to try?
I want to dive into leather works. I also started my first foam project recently.
What materials do you wish were easier to work with?
What techniques are you dying to learn?
Digitizing embroidery designs
